On Sunday, June 19, 2022, the parishioners of the Church of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Kingisep witnessed a rare miracle – during the reading of the Akathist to the Most Holy Mother of God, myrrh began to flow on the Iberian icon of the Mother of God.
Father Vasily Ilyin, the pastor of the temple, attended this miracle of the myrrh-streaming and blessed the daily reading of the Akathist to the Mother of God in front of Her icon.
“While we were reading the Akathist to the Most Holy Mother of God, one of the believers suddenly exclaimed that the icon cried!” I came to see – and really “, the icon is covered with transparent drops of moisture, which are also fragrant. I know this scent well, which appears right during the myrrh pouring. ” says the priest Vasily Ilyin.
“Drops of myrrh appeared only on the Savior’s face; the moisture flows for the fourth day and exudes a pleasant smell “, explains Father Vasily and adds:” this phenomenon is a rare miracle in our area and it is a sign that prayers should be intensified. Miracles do not happen so that we admire them, but so that people finally start thinking about what God warns us about … It seems to me that in some way it could be connected with Ukraine and that this is an echo of today’s events. Maybe it’s a warning; a sign that the priests are still praying. And to do that for all Orthodox, regardless of whether they live in Russia or Ukraine! “
According to the priests, their chapel is only a year and a half old. The altar Iberian icon for the village church was ordered from the Diocese of Gacina by Father Timoty (now deceased), who started building a church in the village of Kingisep five years ago and succeeded in his endeavor. Money for the icon, as well as for the temple, was collected by all the villagers.
